On June 22, 2025, the David Labkovski Project (DLP) hosted a community brunch and art gathering in Rancho Santa Fe focused on Holocaust education, student leadership, and expanding educational outreach throughout San Diego schools and communities. Hosted by Dr. Jane Willoughby and Ingram Losner, the event brought together supporters, educators, students, and community members for a morning centered on art, history, and dialogue.
The program highlighted DLP’s student-led educational model, which empowers students to become docents, curators, and peer-to-peer educators through engagement with the artwork and history of Holocaust survivor and artist David Labkovski. Through school-based exhibits, workshops, and presentations, students learn to connect art, history, and contemporary conversations around antisemitism, tolerance, and resilience.
Speakers included DLP Founder and Executive Director Leora Raikin, DLP Board Member Dr. Jane Willoughby, and student leader Rebecca Leeman, recipient of the 2025 David Wax Award and Peter Chortek Leadership Award. The event recognized the accomplishments of DLP student docents, alumni, and global ambassadors while also sharing plans for continued growth and educational partnerships in the San Diego area.
David Labkovski’s body of work documents Jewish life before, during, and after the Holocaust, including his exile in Siberia and later years in Israel. Through DLP’s programs, students engage directly with these narrative artworks to better understand the impact of history and the importance of preserving memory through storytelling and education.
The gathering also reflected DLP’s ongoing expansion beyond Los Angeles, where the organization has partnered with schools and educational institutions to bring project-based Holocaust education to students through immersive and student-centered programming.
As DLP continues building relationships with educators and communities throughout San Diego, the organization remains committed to using art and education to foster empathy, historical understanding, and meaningful conversations that counter antisemitism and hate.
