 We invite you to
REFLECT AND RESPOND
​to Labkovski's artwork 


Selected responses will be presented
during the Virtual, International 
Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Commemoration, Program
April 8, 2021 
7:30 p.m. PT


Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, remembers the six million Jews and millions of other victims of the Holocaust at the hands of the Nazis and their collaborators.



Appropriate for ages 12 and up.
Guidelines and prompts for submissions below.

 

Submissions are due by
​1:00 p.m.,  March 23.  

Guidelines: 

1. View the artwork illustrating the Holocaust, the "world that was", or the illustrations of Sholem Aleichem's stories. Each work of art has a link to the story or background information for you to enjoy.

2.  Reflect upon one work of art and write your response in a poem, prose or create a unique art piece.

                    * Poem may be no more than 30 lines.
                    * Essay may be no more than 300 words.
                    * Artwork will be displayed on the David Labkovski Project website.


3.  All work must be original.

4. Submit your entry as a PDF or JPEG to ​info@davidlabkovskiproject.org​
    by 1 p.m. PST, March 23.

5.
Entries must include your name, email, parent/guardian email (if under 18 years of age) and phone number. 

6. If entrant under 18, please download and submit the release form with your entry.

The David Labkovski Project REFLECT AND RESPOND Program Committee will review entries.

​You will be notified by April, 4 if you have been selected to read your poem or essay aloud during the program.

We will rehearse via online video on Monday, April 5, at 5 p.m. PST, and then read your work at the program on
 April 8 at 7:30 p.m. PST.


If your work is not chosen to be in the ceremony, it will be available for viewing on the David Labkovski Project website.

The David Labkovski Project reserves the right to use the submissions in future publications.

We are offering two different options to Reflect and Respond to Labkovski's work depicting the Holocaust or the "world that was" including his illustrations of Sholem Aleichem's stories.

1. Labkovski's depictions of the Holocaust. (more appropriate for ages 13-adult)

The Reflect and Respond program is an opportunity to learn about the "world that was" and the Holocaust through the artwork of Lithuanian-Israeli artist David Labkovski.

​Responses can be in poetry, prose or art.
